Do You Know Your Skin? Pt 3 (Dry)

Dry skin is one of the easier types to identify, but no easier to care for than other types. Dry skin can cause premature wrinkles, scaly skin, or make for a difficult makeup application. Luckily, I have some ideas and info that may help you better manage your dry skin. If you haven't already, check out my part 1 and part 2 in this series which will help you identify your skin type and give you some common misconceptions about sensitive and oily skin.

First thing's first, like I've said in my previous posts, is to identify and understand YOUR skin and chemical makeup. Those with dry skin underproduce moisture and natural oils whereas people with oily skin types do the opposite.

Something very important if you have a dry skin type is to MOISTURIZE (per usual) and make sure your skin is properly hydrated. But what most people don't know, is that exfoliating and using wash away masks is JUST as important. People with dry skin have a build up of dead skin cells, stretched, and scaly patches which need to be cleansed and exfoliated to promote skin and collagen regrowth and replenishing. Stimulating the face through exfoliants and wash away masks will help to provide a clean and base level for moisturizers and creams to actively absorb into the skin.

Although these steps do not vary from other skin types, the products you use definitely will. One of the main parts of developing a skin care routine that benefits you and your skin is to find and try different products until you establish and discover what works best for you and your chemical makeup.

Those with dry skin types should not skip out on the things above, but it is also vital to use essence, serums, moisturizer, AND creams; not just one of the bunch.

Products to help with dry skin:
  • Exfoliant (to help clear dead skin and promote active collagen) xx

  • Masks xx

  • Serums to allow the skin to repair and actively absorb xx (This brand is amazing)
  • Moisturizer xx
  • Sleeping pack for the skin to hydrate over night xx

All in all, it is not just important to keep dry skin hydrated, but to also exfoliate and refresh with cleansers and masks as well.

Keep a look out for posts combination and acne-prone skin types coming to the series
