Do You Know Your Skin? PT 2 (Oily)
Oily skin can be super annoying at times and problematic at others, excess oil production can cause sebaceous filaments, black heads, enlarged pores, or even for your makeup to break away. I've got some tips and tricks that could help you better manage your oily skin type. If you haven't already, check out my part 1 in this series to identify your skin type and read about sensitive skin misconceptions.
The first thing is to establish and understand why your skin is the way that it is. People produce oil to keep the skin moisturized and hydrated; however, oily skin types are due to an over production of moisture due to your chemical makeup. The PH balances in your chemistry along side your hormones can determine your skin type and overproduce moisture.
Many people thing that adding moisturizers or serums to an oily skin type will worsen oil production; however, that is NOT the case.
People with oily skin types overcompensate for a LACK of hydration, so if you add hydrating moisturizers or serums to your skin care routine this can help lessen the production of oil on the face.
EVERY SKIN TYPE NEEDS MOISTURIZER. I cannot stress this enough! People blessed with smooth and normal skin from people with trouble skin should use a moisturizer/cream/hydrating serum every day.
Another thing to make sure of is to exfoliate. With a lot of excess oil and build up, it is important to rid of the dead skin cells and cleans deeply into clogged pores. Someone with oily skin may want to exfoliate or use clay (or wash off) masks 2 to 3 times a week. For makeup application, it is imperative you start with a clean and PRIMED face, this will help prevent the oils from breaking down your make up as well as providing a hydrated base for your makeup to stick to.
Helpful Products for Oily Skin:
- Nose pore strips (this helps extract black heads, white heads, and sebaceous filaments on the nose and inner cheeks. xx
- Charcoal Masks xx
- Foaming cleansers with enzymes, baking powder, or charcoals xx
- Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!! xx
The main thing is to make sure your skin is clean and hydrated every night before bed and find products that work with you and your chemistry.
Keep a look out for misconceptions on dry, combination, and acne-prone skin.
