Fashion Trends From Russia the Rest of the World Needs

When I was in Russia for six weeks over the summer, I couldn't help but practically stalk the beautiful men and woman dressed to the nines with perfect hair styles and makeup. I am going to share some of the styles and trends I found and fell in love with while I was in Russia and have been trying to embody ever sense.

One of the immediate things I noticed was how all of the women wore nude panty hose under their skirts, dresses, and even jeans! At first I was skeptical about this habit and wondered if in the summer heat their legs were able to breath, but then I took up my own pair to wear under my dresses with my nice shoes and absolutely loved the way my legs looked smoother! Not to mention, it was also a plus that this trend stopped leg chafing. This is the first, what i would call a hack, we should take from the Russian culture. BRING BACK THE PANTY HOSE, and not just for ballet and fancy occasions.

Tip number 2: All of the men in Moscow had their hair styled to perfection. The males in our group that got haircuts in Russia ended up with classy and fashionable cuts that worked with their face shape. They truly new how to style their hair. Most of the men used a sort of Palmade or gel and had a nice fade on the sides and it was definitely one of the things, coupled from their impeccable fashion, that made me swoon.
Their hair looked something like this. It seemed like everywhere you turned there was a well dressed beautiful Russian man with this haircut. So gentleman, ladies, and all those in between who opt for shorter cuts... try this out!

Since I commented on men's hair, I have to insert the fashion quality of the Russian women's hairstyles. Most had a sort of slicked back bun style that was simple yet incredibly chic; sort of like Lilly Vanderwoodsen from Gossip Girl. This hair style coupled so well with their trench coat fashion with light pinks, blacks, whites, and an over all class. If it wasn't pulled back, it was perfectly, fresh out of the salon, styled.

The manner of their dress, high fashion and ready to meet anyone, is one of the main things I try to embody when dressing up for a normal day. WWRW... What would the Russians wear? Below is a compilation of some of the photos I was able to snap for inspiration when I saw a particularly fashionable look.

This area was sort of like a 3rd street promenade that had all sorts of shops, cafes, restaurants and the Moscow Art Theatre and Moscow Art Theatre School where I studied, so it was certainly a hot spot for fashion.

Stay tuned for a tutorial on the classic, chic Russian makeup look!
